As confirmed by a Delaware judge, Twitter’s attempt to convince Elon Musk to complete the purchase of the social network will formally begin on October 17.
The continuing dispute between Twitter and Tesla’s owner will hopefully be concluded in the Delaware Court of Chancery from October 17–20, as Bloomberg reported earlier today.
Since Twitter accepted Elon Musk’s $44 billion bid in April, the ongoing controversy has seen numerous turns. The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX decided he no longer wanted to purchase Twitter, citing uncertainty around Twitter’s bot data, but Twitter has been attempting to compel the transaction through a civil process.
Although we didn’t know the exact date until today, a judge last week decided that Twitter might speed up the trial to October this year, despite Musk’s initial request to postpone it until next February. However, Musk may be able to claim a little triumph because he recently requested an October 17 start date as opposed to Twitter’s October 10 request.
Twitter said last week in its Q2 earnings report that it had spent $33 million on the pending acquisition during the prior quarter, a sum that will undoubtedly rise in the months leading up to the trial.
